Hey all:

At some schools, graduating classes donate a bench or a plaque to their school. At GW, graduating classes contribute to a scholarship fund endowed in the name of that class year so that future students can enjoy the benefits of a GW Law education in the heart of the District.

A one-time donation of $20.12 will get you a Class of 2012 T-Shirt (with the design shown below). A pledge of $20.12 per year for five years will get you a t-shirt and a sweatshirt. It’s a steal! Moreover, the greater the percentage of participation, the greater the chances that we can convince outside donors to match our fundraising and add even more money to the Class of 2012 Scholarship Fund.

Below, please find a letter from 2012 Class Gift Chairman, Josh Prentice, asking for your participation.

Letter from 2012 Class Gift Chairman

To the Class of 2012,

Come May, each of us will have a diploma from one of the best law schools in the country. Regardless of where our careers take us, I know we will all be successful.

What sets GW Law apart is a true sense of camaraderie: the belief that friendships matter as much, if not more, than grades. GW is a large school, but also one characterized by the warmth and friendliness of its students. Whether you spend your time in the hard or soft lounge, the library, at bar review, or working in the city, you have undoubtedly felt the strength of the GW Law community.

It is because of the lasting relationships we made during our time at GW that I now ask you to contribute to our Class Gift Scholarship Fund. The Class Gift Scholarship is a permanent scholarship fund that will be awarded to deserving incoming students. These students might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend our law school, experience a DC Snowpocalypse, watch a Supreme Court oral argument in person, or be delayed by yet another motorcade.

Before we graduate, let’s do one more thing as the Class of 2012: make sure someone else has the opportunity to join us as a member of the GW Law community.

The classes of 2010 and 2011 raised record amounts. We can do better.

Sincerely,
Joshua Prentice
Class Gift Chair

Why Give?

During our tenure at GW we have had three different deans, experienced a fluctuating job market, and gained the right to eat and drink in the library. One thing that will not change is the legacy of the class of 2012. As we all know, the cost of legal education in the United States continues to rise. By establishing the Class of 2012 Scholarship Fund, we can enable future generations to follow their dreams and join us as proud GW Law alumni.

How Can I Participate?

Any donation amount is appreciated, but in the spirit of 2012, donors who make a gift of $20.12 or more will receive a Class of 2012 T-shirt. However, our class has never been one to do only what is easy and we encourage each and every one of you to consider making a five-year pledge to the 2012 Class Gift Scholarship Fund. In doing so, you promise to contribute $20.12 for four years after graduation. Donors who make a five-year pledge will enhance the Class of 2012 Scholarship Endowment’s growth between graduation and our five-year reunion. Students who make a five-year pledge will receive a class of 2012 T-shirt and Sweatshirt.

Will My Donation Make a Difference?

Without a doubt. Every donation gets us one step closer to our participation goal of 35% for five-year pledges, and 55% for overall participation. In addition, your donation will make you eligible to attend special events with professors, fellow classmates and Dean Berman. However you choose to participate, your donation to the Class of 2012 Scholarship Fund will make a difference in your life, a future student’s life, and help in establishing the legacy of the class of 2012.
