How it Works
There are generally two election seasons during the school year. During the Fall Election, eight senators are elected to serve during that school year: Six are elected to represent each of the 1L Inn classes, one is elected to represent the newly-arrived Transfer Students, and one is elected to represent the year’s LLM/SJD class. During the Spring Election, seventeen officers are elected to serve during the following school year: The SBA President, the SBA Executive Vice President, six senators to represent the 2L Day class (one from each Inn), six senators to represent the 3L Day class (one from each Inn), one senator to represent the 4L Evening class, one At-Large senator to represent all Day Students, and one At-Largeâ senator to represent all Evening Students. If any unplanned vacancies occur in any of these positions, the Elections Committee will also initiate, organize, and oversee a Special Election to fill that vacancy.
If you would like to run for any of the positions available during the Fall Election, a mandatory Candidates Meeting will be held in late August or early September. Please read the SBA weekly Newsletter and look for flyers on the school’s bulletin boards for specific information regarding the date, time, and location of that meeting. If you are interested in running for any of the positions available during the Spring Election, the mandatory Candidates Meeting will take place in February. Again, please read the weekly SBA Newsletter and look for flyers on the school’s bulletin boards for specific information regarding the date, time, and location of that meeting. If you are interested in joining the Elections Committee, the SBA Executive Branch accepts applications in September and in March. Please read the weekly SBA Newsletter for information regarding the specific requirements for that application.
