(1) Reminder: October 28th SIPLA IP Interview Training Session!

On Wednesday, October 28 from 5:00-6:00 PM, SIPLA is hosting an IP Interview Training session in LL 102! This is an extremely useful session to attend as it will give many 1Ls their first look at what a typical IP Law interview is like. We will discuss everything from how to prepare for interviews to answering specific questions commonly asked by interviewers.

Again, we highly recommend that all SIPLA members, specifically our 1L members, attend this event as it will help you with your coming interviews (which are right around the corner)! Pizza and non-alcoholic refreshments will be served.

(2) November 4th SIPLA Employer Outreach Program #2

On Wednesday, November 4th, from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM, SIPLA will host its second Employer Outreach Program of the year. Several law firms will take part in a panel on “Non-Practicing Entities and Patent Law.” We will also be hosting a networking event before and after the panel. This event benefits each firm by dramatically increasing the number of attendees, and benefits the students by allowing them to meet multiple firms at once and by having an educational panel.

There will be free food and drinks. Alcohol will be available via a ticket system for individuals over the age of 21 with a valid, government-issued ID.

Dress Code: Business Professional

Participating firms*:

Cooley LLP

Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP

Last year’s Employer Outreach Programs saw on average more than 100 law students in attendance and hosted several attorneys and recruiting personnel. We anticipate this year’s programs will be even more popular, and hope to see you all there.

UCL, GW Law, and a number of others are putting on a Patents in Biotech Program on November 5 and 6 in the Jack Morton Auditorium, which as you know is across the street from our law school. The program is described at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/laws/ patents-in-telecoms-2015/.

Professors John Whealan and Martin Adelman would like some of our IP students to act as ushers. This will give those students the opportunity to engage deeply with one of the big issues in patent law standards, as well as meet some key players in the field. There would be no charge for any of those volunteering students.

Any interested student should express their interest by contacting Kristen Pallmeyer at kpallmeyer@law.gwu.edu.
