(1) Spring 2016 A. Sidney Katz Lecture: Judge Bryson

The Spring 2016 A. Sidney Katz Lecture will be given by Judge Bryson of the Federal Circuit on March 30th. It will take place in the Faculty Conference Center beginning at 5:30 pm. The invitation for the event is attached.

(2) AIPLA Quarterly Journal First Annual Symposium March 18th

We are pleased to invite you to the first annual American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal (AIPLA QJ) Symposium!  The theme of the Symposium this year is “The Life of a Claim Term.”  We are excited to feature such distinguished speakers, moderators and panelists, including retired Chief Judge Paul Michel, Judge Susan G. Braden, Judge Thomas Pender of the ITC, Administrative Patent Judge Grace Obermann, and our keynote speaker, William Jay, who argued before the Supreme Court in Teva, among others.

Check-in and light breakfast begins at 8 AM. Symposium and reception are from 9 AM to 6:30 PM.

(3) Alumni Opportunity: Harrity & Harrity Patent Associate Trainee Program

Harrity & Harrity is hiring for its Patent Associate Training Program.* The patent associate trainee program is a temporary position with the firm for up to four months, during which time, you will be trained in the skills that are needed to prepare high quality patent applications for leading technology companies.  Should you successfully complete the training program, there is a strong possibility that you would be offered a full-time associate position with the  firm.  To apply for this position, submit a resume and a cover letter explaining why you would be a good candidate for the program to For more information, see the attached flyer.

*Please note: In order to apply for this position, you must have a J.D., have passed a bar or are awaiting bar results, and have either a B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, or physics. (4) American University Law Review Federal Circuit Symposium

On Thursday, March 24th from 5:00-7:00pm the American University Law Review will host a Federal Circuit Symposium on “Reviewability of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s Decision to Institute Post-Grant Proceedings.” For more information, please see the attached flyer.

(5) Foley & Lardner In-Office Panel & Reception

The week of March 28th Foley & Lardner will host a panel and reception for 1Ls at their office here in DC. More details will follow in next week’s newsletter.
