(​1​)​ Fall 2016 SIPLA ​Treasurer Election

The election for the new SIPLA Treasurer is here! Please see the attached candidacy statements for the candidates. Click here to voteVoting will be open until August 31st at 11:59 PM​. Please note that you will only be allowed to vote once and that all submissions are final. Only currently-enrolled student votes will be considered. ​

(2​) Upcoming SIPLA Events: Student Organization Fair, ThirstyThursday, General Body Meeting, and More

SIPLA will be kicking off the year with several events:

On Wednesday, Aug. 31, SIPLA will be tabling at the Student Organization Fair from 2pm to 6pm in the Hard and Soft Lounges. Encourage any 1Ls that may be interested to come down and sign-up!

We will also be selling GW Law shot glasses! ​

On Thursday, Sept. 1, SIPLA will be ​sponsoring the first SBA ​Thirsty Thursday in the SCC from 4pm to 6pm. We’ll be serving Chick-fil-A and selling some SIPLA swag, so bring your friends and enjoy some drinks and snacks. Alcohol will be available via a ticket system for individuals over the age of 21 with a valid, government-issued ID.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 7pm to 8pm SIPLA will be having its Fall General Body Meeting to go over SIPLA’s agenda, events, and meetings for this semester. We ask that all SIPLA members attend. The ​meeting will take place in LL102. ​Pizza and non-alcoholic beverages will be available!

Later in the semester, we plan to host employers for networking and panel discussions as part of our Employer Outreach Series on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Wednesday, Nov. 9. We also plan to host an ​IP Interview​ T​raining ​Session on Wednesday, Nov. 2. More information about each ​event ​will be sent in the future. Please note that the dates for these events are tentative.

(​3​) Sign Up to be a SIPLA Mentor!

SIPLA is happy to be continuing its mentorship program, and we’re looking for upperclassmen to volunteer to be mentors. To sign up, fill out the form here. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to reach out to our Mentoring Chair, Ashley Cade (acade@law.gwu.edu).

We will be hosting a mentor-mentee happy hour ​Meet & Greet on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 5pm to 7pm at Elephant & Castle (900 19th St NW).

(4) Job Opportunity: Nath, Goldberg & Meyer – Law Clerk

Nath, Goldberg & Meyer (www.nathlaw.com) is seeking current students to work on a part-time basis in their Electrical Department to handle patent prosecution matters.  The position is located in the Alexandria, VA office.  Candidates must have a degree in electrical engineering, physics or computer science.  Flexible hours are available during law school finals.
