SIPLA will be hosting it’s fall meet and greet Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Elephant & Castle (900 19th St NW). The meet & greet has been scheduled to span two class sessions. Feel free to come late or leave early if you need to!

The meet and greet is a great place for mentors and mentees to meet each other as well as for all SIPLA members to get to know each other and some of the IP faculty members. By now, all the mentors and mentees have been paired. If you have yet to hear from your mentor, please reach out to acade@law.gwu.edu.

Alcohol will be available via a ticket system for individuals over the age of 21 with a valid, government-issued ID.

(3) “Intellectual Property & Global Prosperity” Conference at George Mason

On October 6-7, the Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property at George Mason Law will be hosting our Annual Fall Conference: “Intellectual Property & Global Prosperity.”

The conference will feature a keynote address from Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway, the first wearable insulin pump, and many other inventions secured by more than 440 patents, as well as panels of IP experts from industry, academic and policy fields.

(4) 2L Job Opportunity: Alston & Bird

Alston & Bird has an opening for a 2L, for the summer of 2017, in their IP litigation practice. Science degree required, except for biology. Do not apply directly to the firm. If interested, send your resume and law school transcript to Katie White, kwhite@law.gwu.edu, byTuesday, September 27.

(5) Sports Law Conference

The Entertainment and Sports Law Association has asked us to spread word about the Sports Law & Entrepreneurship Conference. The first panel explores how IP relates to sports and branding — this is a great opportunity for those interested in copyright and trademark to learn more about possible practice areas!

Click here to learn more about the conference and to register. If you are interested in volunteering at the event, please click hereThere will be free food and alcohol (at the networking event at the end) and the ability to network with sports/IP attorneys. Also, we really would like students to register for the event so we can get a head count so if you could emphasize that, that would be great!
