The internship program will take place on the following dates: March 17, March 24, March 31 and April 7.  The firm will work with each intern to accommodate class schedules. (10) SIPLA Spotlight: Emma Frank

Emma graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s in Biology (with a focus in infectious disease and immunology), as well as a minor in public policy. During her 1L summer, Emma returned to Boston as a summer litigation associate at Wolf Greenfield. She plans to return there this summer with a continued focus in patent litigation.

During both 1L and 2L year, Emma worked at Strain & Strain here in D.C., where she had the opportunity to learn more about patent prosecution. This year, Emma has remained active in SIPLA, serving as Regulatory Chair. She is also a board member of Law Revue (cue jazz hands), a member of Promissory Notes (the law school a capella group), and The George Washington Law Review (no jazz hands).

When she’s not at school, Emma enjoys baking for her friends and spending time with her cat, Milo.

Advice for 1Ls: “Tip: contact any labs or research positions you had and ask what law firms they work with or the institution works with, it’s a good starting point. Otherwise, don’t be afraid to reach out to Katie or SIPLA upperclassmen. And things have a way of working out in the end.”

On Tuesday, Jan. 10th*, from 5-7:30pm in the SCC (second floor of Lisner)**, SIPLA will host its third Employer Outreach Program of the year. Representatives from several law firms will take part in a panel on “Briefing & Arguing Cases in Front of the Federal Circuit. We will also be hosting a networking event before and after the panel. This event benefits each firm by dramatically increasing the number of attendees and benefits the students by allowing them to meet multiple firms at once and by having an educational panel.

There will be free food and drinks. Alcohol will be available via a ticket system for individuals over the age of 21 with a valid, government-issued ID.

Dress Code: Business Professional

Participating firms:

Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP
Kirkland & Ellis LLP
Morrison & Foerster LLP
Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP
Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck P.C.

*Please note that the first EOP of the spring will be on the second day of class. We have intentionally scheduled the EOPs to be earlier, so that students can meet more firms while they are still hiring for their 2017 summer programs.

Please also note that the first EOP of the spring will be in the SCC, not the FCC.

(2) Looking Ahead: SIPLA Board Elections

In February, SIPLA will be holding elections for the executive board. This is still a while’s away, and more information will be distributed regarding elections as they come closer. But it’s never too soon to start thinking about whether you intend to run.

Please see the attached document for information regarding each position. All the positions of the board will be up for election, but please note that the Copyright & Trademark Chair is elected by IPEL internally.
