The latest info on the Patent Office Exam
Who can take it,
How it works, now that it’s on computer and “on demand,”
When you should take it (you don’t need to…and probably shouldn’t…wait until you graduate),
How the America Invents Act is impacting the Exam, and
Recommendations on when and how to study for this very difficult Exam
Scholarships to PLI’s other IP programs will also be discussed.

(9) SIPLA Spotlight – Akkad Moussa

SIPLA Spotlight is a Newsletter segment where we feature 2L or 3L SIPLA members every newsletter. The purpose of SIPLA Spotlight is to introduce the 1L SIPLA members to upperclassmen who are interested in varying aspects of IP Law and have many different backgrounds. 1Ls, if an upperclassmen has a similar background as you, is interested in the same practice area as you, has interned where you want to intern, etc., please feel free to reach out to them via email (you can reach anyone in the law school by searching their name in the recipients line of an email). They have all been in your shoes and are more than wiling to give you some advice!
Akkad graduated from Cornell University with a degree in chemistry, focusing on organic and analytical chemistry. He spent one summer doing research in Jülich Germany with Research Internships in Science Engineering (RISE), and the fall of his Senior year working with the chemistry team for the E.&J. Gallo Winery in Modesto, California.

During his 1L Summer, Akkad worked with the Chemistry & Life Sciences team at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP here in Washington, D.C. He is continued working there during his 2L year, mostly on prosecution, and then split his 2L summer between Kilpatrick Townsend and Baker Botts LLP in New York, doing prosecution and litigation with Baker Botts’ Life Sciences team. After graduation, he’ll be staying in DC and working at Kilpatrick Townsend.

In case you haven’t seen him, Akkad is very involved in SIPLA, as the Vice President last year and the President this year. He is also involved with Law Review and LAMBDA within the law school, and volunteers with Spark the Wave (feel free to reach out and ask him about it!), where he helps teach kids how to become service leaders in their communities, as well a number of other non-profit organizations. In his free time, Akkad enjoys the simple pleasures, such as cooking, listening to podcasts, and reading, as well as hiking and going to museums.

– Have a great week,
