The budget is a very large project for the SBA senate each year. In order to streamline the SBA budget making process, the GW SBA has a timeline and process for each budget making step.
Budget Timeline & Instructions
Friday, September 2, 2016 at 11:59 PM – Deadline to Submit Budget Requests and Sign-up for Finance Committee Meetings
Budget requests must be submitted to the Finance Committee at SBAMoney@law.gwu.edu by 11:59PM. Failure to submit a complete budget request by the deadline may result in ineligibility for annual budget funding. Please find the relevant documents here.
Organizations must also sign-up for meetings with the Finance Committee, if applicable, by 11:59PM. There is no need to sign-up for a meeting if you believe that your submitted budget request documentation clearly and adequately represents your organization’s funding needs.
Tuesday, September 6, 2016 through Thursday, September 8, 2016 (12:00PM-8:00PM Daily) – Finance Committee Hearings with Organizations
Budget hearings will be held with any organization that would like to discuss their budget submissions with the Finance Committee. Meeting sign-ups are not mandatory unless specifically requested by the Finance Committee, but serve as an opportunity for organizations to discuss their budgetary needs in further detail with the Finance Committee. Organizations can sign up for one 15 minute timeslot by entering their information in the following Google Doc: Organizational Budget Meeting Signup Sheet.
The Finance Committee may require an organization to attend a meeting if any issues or concerns are identified with an organization’s budget.Failure to appear on time for a requested hearing may result in ineligibility for funding. Please contact the Finance Committee as soon as possible in case of an emergency (Email Donald at firstname.lastname@example.org).
Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 12:00PM – Proposed Budget Allocations Released
The Finance Committee will release proposed budget allocations to individual organizations and the SBA Senate. Time-permitting, this information may be released ahead of time.
Sunday, September 11 at 11:59PM – Deadline to Submit Notification of Budget Appeal
Organizations must submit a Notification of appeal to SBAMoney@law.gwu.edu by 11:59PM to be eligible to appear before the SBA Senate during the following week’s budget meeting. Please send a cover letter stating the reason for your appeal, listing the event(s) whose funding you’re appealing and why those events should receive a different amount of funding than was allocated by the Finance Committee.
Tuesday, September 13 at 9:00PM in LLC006 – SBA Senate Budget Meeting
The Senate will convene to discuss and vote on the budget as recommended by the Finance Committee. Organizations that submitted timely notices of appeal will have an opportunity to address the entire SBA Senate during this time, before the entire budget is finalized and voted on.
